Guy Ritchie attacks foreigners for buying London homes

Guy: Stop foreign buyers. Er, Madge has 7 UK pads



Guy Ritchie has had a pop at foreigners snapping up UK homes - despite his wife Madonna owning seven here.

The 39-year-old film director said Londoners are being priced out of the property market by rich investors from abroad.
Not surprisingly, he doesn't blame Americans like Madge, but Russians.

Ritchie said: "The natives are being left behind because the big money came in and if it wanted something it bought it and made a fortune.

"It's impossible to buy a house in Central London unless you have 10 million quid."

He went on: "There's so much money here now, particularly with Russian oligarchs. They have a unique way of doing business, they double the price. If it's going for £500million they'll pay a billion.

House prices don't go down, just up."

Yet Madonna, 49, and Ritchie own a £7million home in Marylebone and a £6million one next door. They also have a pair of £2million mews cottages nearby and two others the Kabbalah religious sect uses.

Not to mention their £9million Ashcombe estate in Wiltshire.

Ritchie was speaking to Empire Magazine to promote his new film RocknRolla, set in London.

National Association of Estate Agents chief Peter Bolton King said: "I'm pleased he's concerned about the affordability of housing in London but affordability as far as he's concerned is different."
